E272 • Aug 30, 2023 • 27 mins

In this episode, Roxanne and workplace health specialist, Linda Crockett, delve into the subject of psychological safety at the workplace. They discuss Linda's personal experiences with workplace bullying, the reality of toxic environments, and the importance of policies and procedures. They also explore the differences in psychological safety legislation and how to deal with psychological harassment.

Key Points

  • Linda Crockett shares her personal journey of hitting rock bottom due to workplace bullying and how it led her to become an expert on psychological hazards in the workplace, founding the Canadian Institute for Workplace Bullying Resources.
  • Psychological harassment in the workplace is defined by Linda as a variety of negative behaviors directed towards a specific person or group over a period of time that causes harm, distinguishing it from conflict or one-time incidents.
  • Leaders have a responsibility to be aware of their own stress levels and behaviors, and competent leaders do not harass or bully their staff, highlighting a need for proper training and support for leaders to ensure a psychologically safe workplace.

Quote: “Eventually, this kind of behaviour is going to take anyone down. The people coming through my door are highly educated, resilient, articulate, strong, dedicated, loyal people.” Linda Crockett
