How to Become an Authentic Leader in Uncertain Times with HR Expert Neil Cosby

E128 • Jun 18, 2020 • 38 mins

In this episode, Roxanne Derhodge engages in a deep conversation with Neil Cosby on the subject of leadership during uncertain times. They discuss the challenges brought on by COVID-19, the importance of agility and self-understanding in crisis, and the vital role of communication. Further, they explore proactive approaches in addressing performance issues, continuous growth and development in leadership, and its impact on employee retention. The discussion concludes with a look at Roxanne's upcoming book and Neil's webinar on agile leadership.

Key Points

  • Authentic leadership involves being present and consistent in one's actions and morals, both within and outside the workplace, which builds credibility and trust.
  • Leaders must be agile, adaptable, and resilient, particularly in times of crisis like COVID-19, and should be prepared with contingency plans and open to adjusting strategies as situations evolve.
  • Effective leaders maintain integrity and trust by addressing performance issues head-on, fostering a self-policing team environment, and showing a willingness to grow and adapt their leadership skills continuously.

As we move toward businesses slowly opening up again, I thought this would be a good time to reflect on what it takes to be an authentic leader in troubled times. The past few months have been unprecedented in terms of a global shutdown. We have never seen a time when the world essentially stopped and most of us were forced to work from home. On this episode of Authentic Living with Roxanne, we are happy to welcome back HR Expert, Neil Cosby.

Neil Cosby is a seasoned Senior Human Resources professional with HR generalist experience spanning over 20 years. Neil is a true believer in the necessity for solid HR infrastructure in any organization that must be aligned with the overall business goals and objectives.
