Resolving Conflict as a Leader (Part II) with Christi Scarrow

E198 • Dec 2, 2021 • 18 mins

In this episode, Roxanne Derhodge engages in a deep conversation with Christi Scarrow about conflict resolution in the workplace. They delve into the SBI feedback model, the importance of clear feedback, and the pandemic's impact on conflict avoidance. They also discuss Christi's book, "Truth Warriors", diversity in leadership, and decision-making styles. Roxanne shares her insights as an intuitive decision-maker and encourages listeners to take the book's assessment.

Key Points

  • Understanding your natural tendencies in conflict, whether you're conflict-averse or assertive, can help leverage team strengths and improve decision-making.
  • The SBIQ feedback model (Situation, Behavior, Impact, Intention, and Question) is a structured approach that can guide leaders and peers in providing clear, specific, and respectful feedback during conflicts.
  • Recognizing and addressing personal biases and assumptions is crucial in managing one's reactions to conflict and fostering more authentic and productive communication.

Quote: "I think there's even more of a resistance to avoid difficult conversations, which I believe is actually an escalation to conflict." Christi Scarrow

The definition of conflict is a struggle or clash of interest, opinion, or even principles, a difference that prevents agreement. Conflict will always be found in society and isn't going anywhere, so our best defence is to face it head-on, but many are intimidated by conflict and avoid it at all costs. On this episode of Authentic Living with Roxanne, we welcome back Accountability Expert Christi Scarrow to share some great ideas for leaders to resolve conflict in the workplace.
